Logarithmic Solutions

Role: Campaign Production Specialist

Logarithmic Solutions, on the Thermo Fisher Scientific Materials & Structural Analysis account · September 2021 – October 2022

I built and shipped marketing campaigns end to end for Thermo Fisher Scientific's Materials and Structural Analysis division. Emails, landing pages, registration forms, event pages, newsletters and nurture flows. Built in Oracle Eloqua and Adobe Experience Manager, tracked through Terminus and Salesforce, managed in Workfront.

Around 80 campaign projects over 13 months, across five business units, in seven languages, for audiences spanning North America, EMEA, LATAM, Japan, China, Korea and Taiwan.

The account covered Thermo Fisher's Materials and Structural Analysis division: Spectroscopy, Materials Science, Life Sciences, Semiconductor, and the Visualization Sciences Group. Different business units, different contact databases, different competitor exclusion rules, different product naming conventions.

My job was to take a marketing intake form and a Workfront brief and turn it into something that actually sends and actually creates leads. That meant writing and editing the copy, building the email, building the landing page, building the form behind it, wiring the tracking, pulling the audience, running QA, and deploying.

I picked up Eloqua from zero. Between September and December 2021 I went through 27 recorded training sessions, most of them one-on-one, covering forms, landing pages, multi-step canvases, A/B testing, dynamic content, custom data objects, signature rules, LinkedIn campaigns, update rules, lookup tables and Insight reporting. By early 2022 I was building unsupervised and handling QA on other people's work.

Tools I used daily

  • Oracle Eloqua (marketing automation)
  • Adobe Experience Manager (landing pages)
  • WordPress Email Creator (email builds)
  • Workfront (intake + project management)
  • Salesforce (campaign records + lead routing)
  • Terminus (UTM builder + short URLs)
  • WebEx (webinar registration + delivery)
  • 6Connex (virtual event platform)
  • Brightcove (video hosting)
  • Litmus (email QA + rendering tests)
  • SharePoint (asset + brief handoff)
  • Sublime Text (raw HTML edits)
  • Excel (audience files + segment audits)

Technical competencies

  • Eloqua deep-stack: Multi-step campaign canvases, shared lists, custom data objects, form processing chains, dynamic content, signature rules, update rules, lookup tables, and Insight reporting.
  • HTML email production: Divisional Eloqua sends, Outlook OFT templates for sales, and stripped third-party HTML for publishers like Chemistry World, Labroots, SelectScience, AZoM and Informa — each with its own CID and footer treatment.
  • Adobe Experience Manager: Built divisional templates for short/long-form Eloqua pages, asset offer pages, event registration, thank-you and on-demand conversion pages. Raw HTML where the template couldn't go — hero banners, comparison tables with frozen headers, custom icon rows.
  • Audience & segmentation: Read intake, built segments off four BU templates with the correct competitor exclusion stack, layered master-exclude + hard-bounces/unsubs + region-specific opt-in filters (California / rest-of-US / everywhere else), and combined technique/materials/industry/role/geography with unions and intersections.
  • Tracking + attribution: Every link built in Terminus with UTM campaign/medium/source/content + CID + email name. CIDs matched to Salesforce campaign records. Handled the edge cases — anchors after the query string, stray product-URL params, WebEx SourceId when no AEM page sits in front of it.
  • QA gates: Reviewed other producers' builds before deploy. Checked trademark placement, first brand + first product reference, company-vs-brand-name rule (Thermo Fisher Scientific invites; Thermo Scientific labels a product), form field mapping, lead trigger values, campaign names, and redirect behaviour.
  • Compliance: Transactional vs promotional split — dropped the standard filters on transactional sends so registration confirmations still reach unsubscribed contacts who signed up, kept the full stack on promo.
  • Localisation: Shipped campaigns in English, German, French, Italian, Japanese, Chinese and Korean — bilingual event pages, region-specific reminder logic, sanction-based exclusions where required.

What I actually did

The day-to-day work across the four blocks of the pipeline.

📧 Email production

  • Built emails in the WordPress-based Email Creator and published them to Eloqua.
  • Cloned every build into three variants: the internal Eloqua send, an OFT template for sales to send from Outlook, and a stripped HTML for third-party publishers.
  • Each variant got its own campaign name, CID and tracking parameters. Third-party HTML swapped the footer for a privacy statement block so the publisher could add theirs below a clear divider.
  • Ran A/B tests on subject lines and preview text.
  • Sent test emails to the shared marketing mailbox, saved the Outlook template, cleaned the from address and the view-in-browser row, handed the file off.

🗒️ Landing pages & forms

  • Built pages in Adobe Experience Manager using divisional templates: short and long-form Eloqua pages, asset offer pages, event registration, thank-you and on-demand conversion pages.
  • Wrote raw HTML where the template couldn't reach — hero banners with headline plus button, comparison tables with frozen first rows, custom icon rows.
  • Built Eloqua forms on the divisional form template, mapped every field, set the processing steps.
  • Handled SEO metadata, breadcrumbs, tab titles, H1/H2 structure, and no-index rules where pages weren't meant to be found.
  • Set up Brightcove video on post-event pages and pulled images from the DAM.

🎯 Audience & segmentation

  • Read list request forms and built the matching Eloqua segments.
  • Used the four business unit segment templates, each with its own competitor domain exclusions.
  • Applied the standard exclusion stack: master exclude, hard bounces and unsubscribes, and the opt-in filter with its separate rules for California, the rest of the US, and everywhere else.
  • Combined technique / materials / industry / job role / geography with unions and intersections. Added seed lists. Excluded countries when sanctions or client instructions required it.
  • Uploaded and reconciled installed-base customer lists that came from outside Eloqua.

📊 Tracking, reporting & QA

  • Built every link in Terminus with the right UTM campaign, medium, source and content, plus the CID and email name.
  • Matched CIDs to Salesforce campaign records so leads landed in the right place.
  • Handled the edge cases — anchors that have to sit after the query string, stray search parameters on product URLs, WebEx registration links that need a SourceId when there's no AEM page in front of them.
  • Pulled send, delivery and clickthrough reports out of Eloqua Insight.
  • Reviewed other producers' builds before deploy — trademark placement, brand-name-vs-company-name rule (Thermo Fisher Scientific invites; Thermo Scientific labels a product), form field mapping, lead trigger values, redirect behaviour.

The technical part, in detail

The part most marketing portfolios skip. Also the part that breaks silently if you get it wrong.

Form processing steps

Every form ran a chain of conditional steps. Create or update the contact. If the opt-in field captured the exact value "on", update the opt-in source and program, stamp the opt-in date, and subscribe globally. Create a row in the Prospect custom data object with no unique key so every interaction is kept as its own record instead of overwriting history. Stamp record and received dates. Append free-text comments to the lead request details. For events and webinars, add the contact to a registration shared list, which is what the reminder and follow-up segments are built from later.

Why the exact values matter

The opt-in field only fires on "on". Not "1", not "Yes", not "Oui". An invalid campaign name or an invalid primary product value interrupts lead creation entirely, and nobody notices until sales asks where the leads went.

Dependent classification fields

Eight interdependent fields: business unit, market segment, organization type, organization profile, applications, research domain, sample/target, workflows and techniques. Valid combinations differ per business unit. Primary and secondary business line have their own dependency with product of interest. I worked from the classification matrix and checked each build against it.

Lead triggers

Four flags: sales requested, demo requested, quote requested and product evaluation requested. Any one of them set to "on" starts lead creation and routes the contact to sales.

Transactional vs promotional

Transactional email goes to unsubscribed contacts too, because the person did something with us and expects the follow-up — registration confirmations, event reminders, service notices. On those we drop the standard filters and keep only the competitor exclusion. Promotional email keeps the full stack. Get it backwards and you either break compliance or break the customer experience.

Shared lists on canvases

Used to exclude contacts from a send, or placed at the start and end of a nurture flow to measure how many entered and how many finished. Not needed on single sends — Eloqua reporting already gives you those numbers.

Selected projects

A sample of the campaigns I built end-to-end on this account.

Webinar programme · Visualization Sciences

Avizo Software for metals

Introductory webinar + product demo webinar. Each with a registration page, thank-you page, invitation emails, reminders, and a post-event email with the recording. After each live session I converted the live page into an on-demand page and rebuilt the thank-you page around the video and the FAQ. Two sessions per webinar to cover Asia/EMEA and EMEA/Americas time zones.

Virtual event series · Materials Science

Alternative Protein & Plant-Based Meat

Three-session series on the 6Connex virtual event platform. Registration page, per-session emails, and day-of reminders with session-specific speaker copy, login details and three time zones in the subhead.

In-person workshop · Materials Science

Food Extrusion Workshop, Fraunhofer IVV Freising

Two-day in-person workshop in Germany. Registration page with the speaker programme, six academic speaker bios, and a custom HTML hero banner with an inline registration button. Handled speaker CVs and testimonial release forms. Audience pulled for Europe only: material-characterisation-process contacts, plus food-and-beverage materials + industry segments, intersected with applied R&D job roles.

Nurture flow · Materials Science

Re-engagement drip for lapsed contacts

Five-email nurture flow, ending with a break-up email. Segment: materials science market segment, existing MQLs excluded. Content ran on customer testimonials and case studies rather than product pitches — University of Manchester X-ray imaging testimonial, CNR Bari composites case study.

Product launch · Spectroscopy

NanoDrop Lite Plus

Four-email launch programme split across installed base and prospects, plus a webinar invitation and an on-demand follow-up. A/B tested subject lines. Installed-base list uploaded manually and combined with the UV/NMR seed list. Russia and Belarus excluded.

Bilingual event · Materials Science

SAMPE Japan 2022

Bilingual event page and thank-you page — English and Japanese in parallel — with booth details, appointment booking form and Japanese CTA copy.

Transactional · Materials Science

Karlsruhe site relocation announcement

Customer notice in German and English for a rheology and extrusion site move, sent across three separate audience lists: German customers, English customers, and business partners. Transactional, so it went to everyone regardless of subscription status.

Search-focused pages · Semiconductor

Semiconductor consideration pages

Consideration pages for FIB circuit edit, semiconductor defect inspection and process control demo requests. Wrote page copy, tab titles, H1/H2 and meta descriptions, and built the expert-contact and demo-request forms behind them.

Monthly newsletter · Spectroscopy

Spectroscopy internal newsletter

Monthly internal newsletter through 2022 covering every business unit: product pages, brochures, application notes, battlecards, webinars, social posts and promotions. Collected intake from a dozen stakeholders and produced the send.

Compliance send · Spectroscopy

Limited Service Plan retirement notice

Service contract retirement communication to the bulk elemental analysis installed base, explaining replacement plans and what happens to existing contracts. Legal-sensitive copy, no marketing framing.

Complex form · Life Sciences

Educators campaign

Email series plus a promotions landing page where teachers select which instrument offers they want by checkbox — each checkbox mapped to an internal product code so sales knew exactly what was requested.

Data project · Spectroscopy

Divisional segment audit

Worked through the divisional segment inventory — record counts, opted-in counts, last campaign used, dependency checks — to find which segments were still live and which were dead weight. Database ran to roughly 46,000 molecular spectroscopy contacts, 31,000 vibrational, 22,000 FTIR, 18,000 NanoDrop, 13,000 core UV-Vis and 9,000 bulk elemental analysis, with suppression lists in the hundreds of thousands.
