Make: Ping Slack on High-Value Shopify Orders

Build idea, not a verified tutorial. This was drafted by an automation Daniel built. Tool interfaces change often — check the current docs before relying on the steps.

Every time a high-value order lands in your store, someone has to notice it manually — checking email or refreshing the Shopify admin. This scenario (Make's word for an automated workflow) watches your store 24/7 and posts a Slack message the moment a qualifying order comes in, so your team can act fast.

How it flows

Create a free Make account and open the scenario builder

A scenario in Make is the whole automated workflow — like a recipe with steps. Sign up at make.com (the free plan gives you 1,000 operations — individual step-runs — per month, which is plenty to start). Once you're on the dashboard, click Create a new scenario in the top-right corner. You'll land on an empty canvas with one large + button in the middle. That's where you'll add your first step.

Make · Dashboard

2 What you see next
A blank canvas appears with a single large + button. Every circle you add to this canvas is a module — a single app action or trigger. Make: Creating a scenario →

Add the Shopify trigger — Watch orders

A trigger is the event that starts the scenario. Click the + button, search for *Shopify*, and select the Watch orders module. This tells Make to check your store for new or updated orders on a schedule (every 15 minutes on the free plan). You'll be asked to create a connection — click that button, paste your Shopify store URL, and follow the on-screen OAuth prompts to let Make read your orders.

Add a filter — only let big orders through

A filter sits between two modules and acts like a bouncer: it lets a piece of data (called a bundle — one order's worth of data) through only if it meets your condition. Without a filter, every single order would trigger a Slack ping. To add one: hover over the small dots on the arrow between the Shopify module and where the next module will go, then click the wrench icon that appears. Choose Set up a filter. Give it a label like *High-value only*, then set the condition to `Total price` → `Greater than or equal to` → `500` (or whatever your threshold is).

Add the Slack action — Send a Message

Now add the step that fires when a big order passes the filter. Click the small semicircle tab on the right edge of the filter arrow (Make calls this Add a module), search for *Slack*, and choose Send a Message. Connect your Slack workspace when prompted. Then pick the channel you want the alert posted to (e.g. `#orders`) and write the message text. You can pull live data from the order — like the customer name or total — by clicking inside the Text field and selecting fields from the Shopify bundle that appears.

Test with Run once

Before you leave the scenario running permanently, test it on a real order. Click Run once (bottom-left of the canvas). Make will fetch your most recent Shopify order and walk it through every module, showing a small bubble on each circle with the number of bundles processed. Click any bubble to inspect exactly what data passed through. If the filter shows 0 bundles, the test order's value is below your threshold — lower the value temporarily or place a test order above the limit.

Turn the scenario on and set the schedule

Once the test looks right, flip the toggle in the bottom-left of the canvas from Off to On. Make will now run the scenario automatically on its own schedule. On the free plan that's every 15 minutes. Click the clock icon next to the toggle to set the Scheduling interval — you can leave it at the default or change it. Every new paid Shopify order above your threshold will now post to Slack without you lifting a finger.

What you get

You end up with a live Make scenario that checks your Shopify store every 15 minutes and fires a Slack message to your chosen channel the moment a paid order exceeds your value threshold. Your team sees it in real time — no inbox-checking required. Rough effort: ~45 minutes, free tiers (Make free: 1,000 ops/month; Shopify: any paid plan; Slack: free).
